INVITING DIALOGUE
Public Event Series
In partnership Envision
Financial, CJI is pleased to present...

"Shattering" is an interactive, improvisational theatre production
for all ages. It treats the issue of addiction with a hard-hitting
25-minute presentation followed by a 90-minute audience-interactive
process. While the subject matter is very serious, the audience gets a
chance to engage in a way that is both entertaining and fun.
There is
often a lot of laughter—laughter of recognition, of release, of
discovery, mixed in with silences and sometimes tears.
This presentation, formerly called "Meth", has played to packed
audiences in Vancouver and province-wide. CJI is delighted to be able to
bring "Shattering" to Langley.

Communicating Restoratively in Conflict

Everyone is invited to come to this free workshop facilitated
by Restorative Justice practitioner, Catherine Bargen.
Do you feel stuck when you face conflict at home, at
work or in your relationships? Get unstuck! Learn practical skills to
navigate through conflict to more meaningful interactions with others,
even when things feel tough.
When things go wrong in communities, schools,
workplaces and in our relationships, we want things worked out in a way
that satisfies everybody’s needs and brings meaningful closure. However,
often when we’re involved in conflict, we don’t take the time to listen.
We are intent on making our point, or are feeling too hurt to hear what
the other person has to say. Our relationships suffer and so does our
enjoyment of life!
A healthier approach to conflict brings
understanding and a sense of justice—Restorative Justice—into our
interactions with others. Restorative Justice is a philosophy about
repairing harm, listening to one another and speaking from the heart.
Listening to others, as well as expressing your own needs, allows people
in conflict to share and come to mutually agreed-upon resolutions.
In this workshop, learn a basic understanding of:
• what happens in conflict
• why we often feel "stuck" in conflict situations
• how Restorative Justice relates to conflict
• how to resolve difficult situations respectfully
• how to work to preserve relationships and meet
the needs of all involved
A Restorative approach to conflict resolution
encourages us to shift from judgment to curiosity, and helps us
effectively explore the root causes of our conflicts.

us for this third event in our Inviting Dialogue series! (No RSVP is
required.)

Apex School Band.
Everyone is invited to
come to this free presentation by author and Restorative Justice
advocate Katy Hutchison as she presents “The Story of Bob”.“The Story of Bob” is about wanting the best
and more out of life. It is the story of someone pursuing happiness and
excellence in all aspects of his life. It is a story about losing a
beloved husband and father to a horrific murder. It is a story about
forgiveness and a kind of understanding that when there is a mess in our
life, we roll up our sleeves and clean up. It is also the story of Katy
Hutchison.
Katy, mother of now fourteen-year old twins
Emma and Sam, lost her husband Bob McIntosh on New Year's Eve 1997 when
he was killed while intervening at a rowdy teen party at a
neighbour’s house. Katy shares how the tragic
death of her husband impacted her as a wife and as a mother of two young
children. After Bob’s murder, Katy recognized the need to advise,
educate and inform young members of the community about the risks that
arise with the combination of young people, alcohol, and a lack of
supervision. Katy wants to inspire and empower teens to make healthier
choices so similar tragedies can be prevented.
A very powerful aspect of Katy’s journey is
her reconciliation with the person responsible for her husband’s death.
Exploring the power of forgiveness and restorative justice has become
part of her life.
Katy has presented “The Story of Bob”
throughout Canada as well as internationally. She is also the author of
a book entitled Walking After Midnight: One Woman's Journey Through
Murder,
Justice and Forgiveness
published in 2006.

us for this second event in our Inviting Dialogue series! (No RSVP is
