Community Capacity Development Through positive involvement with the community, the Community Capacity Development program (CCD) works to develop local resources that provide natural supports and positive attitudes towards youth. CCD's goals include increasing public awareness of and commitment to providing the external assets that youth require to develop into self-confident, responsible, resilient and compassionate adults. These external assets include a community that values youth, provides appropriate youth programs, is safe, and gives youth useful roles. Through a variety of collaborative public education projects, CCD outreaches and engages with community members to proactively develop a collective understanding about how we can come together to support the needs of our youth.
The Little Black Book
The Little Black Book is a pocket guide to youth resources in Surrey, Langley and Delta. This 100-page booklet contains helpful information about a variety of youth-oriented services pertaining to health, violence prevention, education, counselling, recreation and more. In early 2006, 2,000 copies of this book were printed and distributed free-of-charge to a variety of locations in the community. The book was so well received that in fall 2006 it was updated and another 5,000 copies were printed. In 2007 it was again updated and expanded to include services in Delta, and 10,000 copies were printed and distributed. Click on the book cover (right) to download a pdf version of the Little Black Book. Enquiries about The Little Black Book, can be directed to the CCD coordinator, Johanna Suttor-Doerksen. We would like to acknowledge the generous, ongoing financial support of Coast Capital Savings for the printing of all three editions of this resource. Other contributors include the Scottsdale and Walnut Grove Lions Clubs and the City of Surrey for the third edition, and Pacific Community Resources Society for the second edition.
